The Big Move

Andy and I left our home in Utah on Nov. 9 and made our way to our new home in Jersey City. Johnson and Johnson took care of us by sending people to pack and move our stuff and our car. We flew out of Utah with just three suitcases and no where to live, but we found the perfect apartment within two hours of looking - thanks to Craigslist and our Realtor! After a vacation at Andy's parent's house and Thanksgiving at my parent's house, we moved in to our new walk-up apartment in Jersey City.

Andy started his job on Nov. 26 and our stuff was delivered the same day. Luckily, there were 4 moving-men that carried every last box and piece of furniture up the 3 1/2 flights of stairs. We are officially moved in and enjoying our new environment. We have about a 25 minute commute into NYC (15 minutes on the Path train and 10 minutes of walking) We live two blocks away from a mall and are close to grocery stores and Target, and there is a nice park across the street from our apartment.

Our old apartment in Utah, we had just shut the door for the last time, and I didn't even cry.
This is a picture of our new apartment (more to come because these aren't our furnishings)
The outside of our apartment.
The park across the street. (By the way, this is what Jersey looked like at the beginning of November. The leaves were still green!)

My Little Butter Dish Has The Cutest Style...

About 7 months ago, I saw the cutest butter dish at Anthropologie. It was a bit pricey for such a small kitchen accessory, but it was love at first sight. So Andy, being the practical one, said that once he got a job, I could buy the butter dish. At that time, we had no idea it was going to take all summer for the job to come, and he soon forgot all about the little deal he made. Do not fear, I'm not as forgetful, right after Andy got the job at J&J, we went and bought the little butter dish.

The Big Orange.... Pumpkin, that is

I think these are the coolest pumpkins we've ever carved. Andy found this unique pumpkin and made his own design. I just copied my design from a book, but they're both awesome!

The Big Apple

Believe it or not... we are moving to NYC!

Andy got a job doing in-house design for Johnson and Johnson. He will be working in Manhattan and starting in November. I can't really believe that me, a small-town girl, is moving to the Big Apple. The one time I visited there, I was scared silly - Mom and I separated from dad and Steven so we could do a bit more shopping and then got lost on our way back to the hotel. We were walking down some dark streets clinging to each other... hahahaha. That was probably the first time in 10 years I'd held my mom's hand. Luckily, we don't plan on living in Manhattan, so hopefully we'll find a nice, quiet neighborhood, and an apartment with a washer and dryer- hey, I can dream, can't I?

Happy and Healthy

Andy and I are doing quite well despite not knowing the future, but hey, who really knows the future? We've been hiking, biking, to Utah's Pro Real Salt Lake soccer games, shopping, to the dollar movies, to three outdoor musicals, and have recently been enjoying a little grill our neighbors gave us. So, overall, life is good. I just have to remind myself to keep everything in perspective. (easier said than done.)Here we are after a soccer game.

We went hiking to Stewart falls.

Here's our mini-grill and my favorite grill master. Notice anything different on Andy? This is what I came home to after being gone for two weeks. It was quite the shock, but I think it looks great.

There's no place like Home

Kristy and I went home in July and helped mom update the kitchen and living room.

We also helped mom pick out some fabrics for pillows and for reupholstering the bar stools. It all looks great.

The Quilt

I started this quilt in May and just finished it last week. I got tired of working on it for probably a month, but I'm glad I stuck with it and finished. I realized that if I wanted to do any more projects, I would have to prove to Andy that I could complete a big project.

4th of July Fun

Our 4th of July was filled with fun. We woke up at 6 am to watch a bunch of hot air balloons take off. After that, we ate a yummy donut and then rushed home to get ready for the big parade. We rode our bikes down to Provo to avoid the traffic, but boy, was it hot--I might have preferred the traffic! It was a good thing we planned to go swimming with Daniel and Becky after the parade. We then hung out with them and played computer games until the fireworks, and then Andy and I left Daniel's house and went up to a friend's house to watch fireworks from their backyard. Last year, we watched fireworks by the temple in Provo and it took us 45 minutes to get home, we didn't want a repeat of that, so luckily this friend's house was within walking distance to our house. Overall it was a great day!

A trip to the land of a million dreams

Last Thursday, Andy came home from work and said "let's go to California," I paused for a moment, and then seriously responded "okay, let's go," but I didn't think we would really go! After discussing it over dinner, we realized that this was a perfect weekend to go because Andy had Friday and Monday off from work. And then we thought about how we're not going to be able to be so carefree in the future a.k.a when we have kids and a real job, so why not?!! Let's go to California! We also called Jim to get some trip planning advice, which made us more excited about actually taking the trip. Thanks! Our trip went as follows:

Here we are on our way! Luckily we left early enough that we didn't hit bad traffic.
We stopped at the St. George Temple and did a session before heading to "Sin City."
We then went to Vegas for a night because I'd never been there, and stayed in a hotel right smack dab in the middle of the strip. What a "dirty, dirty, dirty city." You couldn't look at billboards or on the ground for fear you'd see some dirty picture! This is at the Pink Flamingo.
We did the Vegas buffet dinner thing at the Monte Carlo hotel. It was great! I loved sampling a lot of different food. Andy then made the observation that "I'm a tryer, not a buyer." hahah I kept getting a bunch of food and only tasting it while Andy was getting food and eating it all up. In my defense, I had to make sure I had room for plenty of dessert!

More Disneyland!

This is my absolute favorite ride. It's the buzz-lightyear ride. You shoot targets with a laser gun. I lost the first two games to Andy, but the last game I almost doubled his score. I became a space cadet.

I finally saw the famous Disney Electrical Parade.
The prince and princess at the castle.

I did not want to leave, but I guess all good things have to come to an end. Waaaa!
